Further Pictures Getty Villa/museum/center

July 25, 2007 / by elliott

Will try again to post some pics of our great trip to the J Paul Getty Villa/Museum, and then some of the Center.

Entrance to the Villa in Malibu, Ca.:

Beautiful reflecting pond below the cafe terrace:

Sculpture of Hercules-God worshipped in Herculaneum before buried in lava from Mt. Vesuvius from Pompeii:

Now, at the J Paul Getty Center off of north 405 Freeway:

Bougenvilla "gate" leading into the beautiful Central Garden:

Green "maze" in the beautiful Central Garden at the Center:

Terrace Garden where we had a nice leisurely lunch and had a good conversation with "natives" of Southern Calif. who hadn't been to the
Center before!:

West and South Pavilions:

I hope these come through, but if they don't, these centers are a must for those visiting southern California. It makes me feel great that such a wealthy "oil baron," would share his fortune for our benefit. The only cost for these visits were $8.00 for each place to park. The tram was even free!!

Best regards
R Elliott

We have bouganvillas in our yard here in Arizona, but the freeze last winter did a number on over 1/2 of them! The most beautiful ones are in our backyard!![SMILE]

Yes, I was impressed upon first arriving from the staircase from the Fleischman Theatre, and had to look at it from many perspectives, including downward from the Cafe Terrace where we had a great lunch.[THUMBUP]

Yes, this is a must-see when you come to southern California. I want to go back there again, as we only had a cursory tour of three of the pavilions and honed in on Impressionistic paintings, with so much more to see and appreciate.[THUMBUP][THUMBUP][THUMBUP]

LIke you say our lives are really measured in the moments our "breath is taken away." such as the beauty of the J Paul Getty Villa/Museum and his Center built just 10 yrs ago![THUMBUP]

Yes, when I was young the motto in our school was "See America First!" Yes, this country is the best in the world on many fronts. We enjoy and appreciate the depth and culture of Europe and love Florence, Italy, but still I prefer the good old USA even though we are very young in our heritage compared to the Old World! Thanks for your coming by and glad you enjoyed the pics! Bouganvillas don't survive in extremes of weather, especially the cold,as witnessed by our loss of 3-4 of them when we had 20 degree temperature here in Arizona for several nights in a row!

It's really a shame how many Americans never see any of the treasures that are relatively low cost like this. Not to mention the natural wonders that are free! On my short list is the Lincoln Memorial, Mt. Rushmore, the Grand Canyon...[HEART]
  • elliott said 1 years ago
Agree. Mt. Rushmore is breath-taking as is the Grand Canyon! "See America first," is a truism that goes back to when I was in grade-school![THUMBUP][HEART][THUMBUP]

Yes, this is a must to see when you get to the Los Angeles, California area.

Pink is a great color which is supposed to represent love and a color to calm one down. Some prisons actually have pink cells for the most violent offenders![THUMBUP]
  • prettyinpinkuk said 1 years ago
wow thats cool! my fav colouer

sure hope to get to California and adjoining states in the next few years[THUMBUP]
  • elliott said 1 years ago
Hope you can make it a priority. The traffic congestion is difficult to negotiate at times, but is worth it once you get to your destination such as the Getty Villa/Museum and the Center.[THUMBUP]

    The gate is breathtaking! [HEART]
  • elliott said 1 years ago
This whole complex of Villa/Museum and the Center are almost "wonders of the world." As I have said in other posts, it is really good to see J Paul Getty sharing his fortune for our benefit. Another person who comes to mind is William K. Bok, who was the first male editor of the Ladies Home Journal, who was an immigrant from Holland. He left a beautiful acreage near Tampa, Fla with a carrilon, large forest and garden area, following his grandmother's advice to "leave the world a little better than you found it when you were here," or a quote similar to this![THUMBUP][HEART]

PS: "The Americanization of William Bok," is a must to read: his autobiography. The title is similar to this.

I bet the art collections inside the museum are as breadthtaking as well[THUMBUP]
  • elliott said 1 years ago
They are, so much so, that we plan to go back for another visit sometime next year, and stay longer! In order to take pictures indoors, I will have to review the owner's manual for my digital camera to turn off the flash!

    wish I can join you…[COOL]

Yes, when you get to LA, California in the Malibu area, you must visit this and the J Paul Getty Center! Glad you liked the pics. I am grateful for wealthy people who share their wealth for our benefit. I am amazed at how Bill Gates has become such a benefactor after all the bad press on his monopolistic behavior. I think Warren Buffett has had some influence on him![THUMBUP][HEART]
