Baseball Game

June 3, 2007 / by elliott

My wife is taking care of me, knowing I am an avid Nebraska football fan, having grown up in Nebraska and of course had to play football in high school, even though I was 135 lbs by the time I graduated!!

Anyway, she noticed that the baseball team had made it to the Regionals and were playing here in the Phoenix area.

Yesterday, she treated me to a game at Packard Stadium, near the Sun Devils Stadium, and we saw Nebraska beat a New Jersery team(Monmouth) 6:5, in a great game with the pitching superb for Nebraska with Tony Watson until an opponent in the 6th inning hit a 4 run homer!!

Anyway, as is accustomed to Nebraska players(brag, brag!!) they hung in there until the end, with Optiz, the second baseman, a right hander, and who I criticized all the game for batting left handed, and swinging "like a rusty gate," hit a beautifully-placed double into right field, to bring several runs in and go ahead 6:5, which we ended up winning!.

Oh, well, it is just a game, and although I see on the internet that Nebr. is leading Riverside tonight 7:1, if they hang on to win tonight, they will have to play ASU not only tonight, but tomorrow, if Nebr. wins!!

Wow! What energy these young people have. I guess I had it at one time, but with shingles hitting me and the disk protrusion in my neck hampering me, I guess I better just appreciate the young and revel in the memories I have when I was just about as energetic, although, of course, not as talented athletically.

It is neat to attend a live baseball game. We got to do so on our last trip to SF, something about sitting on the bleachers, watching the action. Good of your wife to do something kind for you. [HEART][HEART]

Thanks for coming by. Yes, we had a great time. By the way, Nebraska got clobbered last night by ASU in a pretty close game until the last 3 innings, in which ASU scored nearly 10 runs to go ahead some 17:7!! Oh, well, there is always another game and another year!![HEART][HEART][HEART]

I love going to the live games even though i seldom do. The best was last year seeing our team, the Oakland A's play the Yankees. I admit I am a bit more star struck than I am interested in the game itself. But i do love it when we win! [THUMBUP]

I especially like to go to live games when it is a favorite team and/or I especially like a certain player. When we lived in Davis, Ca, I used to take my younger son, who was a good athlete in high school, to the SF Giants game, mainly to see Matt Williams play 3rd base. He won the Golden Glove award for this position many times.

I've become hooked on the D-Backs. Watched them lose to Red Sox tonight. We'll bounce back tomorrow. My DH was a Nebraska farmer and his whole tribe wear red on game days. I cheer lustily for Big Red unless they're playing a Calfiornia Pac 10 team or UA. Go Wildcats!

My wife is from Iowa, but I have converted her into a "Cornhusker!" Where did your DH farm in Nebraska?

I was born in Omaha, Ne and lived in Weeping Water before attending UNL and UNMC in Omaha, before moving to California for internship and later practicing for 25+ years.

Yes, the D-backs are fun. We got to see them play the Rockies in May, I believe.[THUMBUP][HEART][THUMBUP]

His farm is in Elmwood. We attended the Cass County Fair a few years back and he receive an |Aksarben Award for pioneer farms that had been in the same family for 100 years. We saw Miss Weeping Water crowned Miss Cass County. [THUMBUP][HEART]

What a small world, as the cliche goes! Elmwood, Nebr. is only 10 miles or so from where I grew up: Weeping Water. When we were young, we often went to Elmwood for medical care: Dr. Liston was one of the ones I remember seeing as a youngster. My sister was a Miss Weeping Water at one time! My father was born in Sidney, Ia but lived in Omaha, until accepting a job in about 1941 in Alvo, which is near Elmwood, then moving to Weeping Water where he lived from 1942 until 1999, when we got him to move into the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. Your husband would know the areas around there that I am mentioning. If you don't mind, what is his last name, as I might know the families. My father: Harold Elliott would have known all of them as he serviced Cass and Otoe County for the Federal Land Bank, then known as the National Farm Loan Association. Wow! How interesting the interactions we have in this tiny planet we call Earth!![HEART][HEART][HEART]
